GLS 100R® is the PROVEN bridge coating solution when complete electrical insulation protection is needed.GLS100R

GLS Coatings Ltd have been awarded a Network Rail Framework Agreement to apply our GLS 100R® Electrically Insulating Coating throughout the UK.

GLS100R® provides a cost-saving solution to Low Clearance projects

Extensive work is being udertaken throughout the UK to electrify the rail network. This requires the installation of new overhead line equipment. This usually means there needs to be a greater distance between the railway and any bridges above it so the overhead equipment fits beneath the bridge.

To get the extra head room, either the track is lowered, or the bridge arch is demolished and replaced with a precast concrete unit. But both options come with significant cost.

GLS Coatings have collaborated with Network Rail and Southampton University to provide a solution when the clearance between the OLE and overbridges is significantly reduced, without the need to either lower the track or higher the bridge - reducing the significant down-time, disruption and costs.

ONLY GLS100R® - insulates up to 193,000 Volts.

GLS100R® is the long term cost effective guaranteed solution and offers the following benefits:

  • No need to lower the track or rebuild overbridges.
  • Already proven successful in preventing bird-strikes above the OLE.
  • Can usually be applied during a single possession, as it insulates up to 193,000 Volts and it is TOUCH DRY immediately.
  • It is the ONLY solution to low clearances between the OLE and the overbridge, when the track cannot be lowered due to construction constraints.
From start to finish GLS Coatings’ Projects have complete traceability through our bespoke iPad Digital Reporting System

York Footbridge Case Study

In 2014, GLS Coatings were approached by Sean Harris, E&P Doncaster, because the footbridge above Platform 4 and 5 at York Station was the 'worst location for bird short circuits' on his area.

GLS Coatings Technicians, working from a self-contained mobile spray-vehicle parked on the station platform, coated the underside of the footbridge above the OLE with GLS100R® Electrically Insulating Coating.

The work was completed during overnight possessions and a delighted Sean Harris said, “The bridge was the worst location for bird short circuits on my area until we installed the coating.”

“This is a success story and I would not hesitate in using GLS again.”

Sean Harris, E&P Doncaster.
