GLS 200B® INEOS Chlor Case StudyRebuilding a bund from scratch is a costly process which also means that tanks within the bunded area must be emptied of all chemicals. When INEOS Chlor in Runcorn wanted to have the expansion joints in one of their caustic bunds sealed, they turned to GLS Coatings Ltd for our considerable technical experience in this area of application.
GLS Coatings technicians have many years’ experience in chemical resistant bund applications. Often, bunds are coated, sealed and back in operation within the same day.
Our coating systems are spray-applied, fast-curing and touch-dry in 5 - 10 seconds. This provides an unrivalled return to service time, which means the minimum disruption to production.
Once on site, we used a high pressure water blast to remove any loose debris, surface laitance and contaminants around all the joints that were to be repaired.
The existing joints were then square cut to ensure a sound repair to the expansion joints. We then cut a A 3-5mm deep termination point into the concrete in preparation for the top coat of Polyurea.
Each expansion joint detail was given a minimal 25mm polyurethane backer rod, with hand applied Polyurea joint sealant.
The Dynamic interfaces were debonded from the Polyurea coating using GLS heat tolerant movement tape to allow full movement prior to the coatings application.
