GLS100R Manchester Victoria Electrification - Case Study

Network Rail were completing the necessary upgrades at Manchester Victoria in preparation of the electrification of the lines. GLS Coatings were contacted to provide a solution to remediate against the possibility of touch potential of track side assets once the lines went live. GLS100R® is the only Network Rail approved solution for electrical insulation.

Amey turned to GLS Coatings Ltd for our considerable technical experience in eliminating Touch Potential in trackside assets at Manchester Victoria.

GLS Coatings Ltd were asked to assess the area ear-marked for electrification and to provide a comprehensive solution to guard against Touch- Potential. The assets that required attention included bridge areas, parapets and other trackside assets.

GLS first prepared the exposed steelwork to ST3 where the cable trunking was to be installed. This was then painted with a M24 protective coating system at 100 microns OFT.

Once each area had been prepped to Network Rail standards, our GLS100R® coating system was spray applied for complete electrical insulation protection.

Access to some of the areas presented a challenge. However, a combinaton of our track-mounted spray rigs and our spray vehicles parked at street level below the bridges allowed GLS Coatings Ltd to complete the project on time and in budget.
